Alicante flower calendar, month by month

What blooms in Alicante each month — from almond in February to dahlias in October. A florist's cheat sheet for anyone who wants «in season».

Why look at the month

A seasonal flower in Alicante costs 30–50% less than the same imported one, lasts longer and looks fresher. This is the calendar we build by at our atelier all year round.

January–February: almond and ranunculus

Almond blossom (almendro) flowers: white and pink branches on bare wood. Ranunculus, tulips, narcissus arrive. Palette: soft pastel. Good month for romance and Valentine's with peony roses.

March: peonies and sweet pea

The imported peony season starts (Dutch and Italian growers). Sweet pea is the most fragrant spring flower. Great for first-half wedding bouquets.

April: orange blossom and Sant Jordi

Orange blossom (azahar) flowers — tiny white flowers with a strong scent. On April 23, Sant Jordi peaks in Catalonia and Valencia. In Alicante we have [our own warm tradition](https://brisalta.flowers/flores-sant-jordi-alicante).

May: peony and rose peak

Best month of the year for weddings and romance. All peony varieties, David Austin garden roses, ranunculus, lisianthus. Palette: dusty pink, cream, champagne. Also Mother's Day (first Sunday of May): carnations and roses.

June: hydrangeas

Hydrangea season starts — potted for terraces and cut for bouquets. Blue hydrangea is the Mediterranean summer symbol.

July–August: lisianthus and architecture

Heat. Peonies and sweet pea are gone. Heroes: lisianthus, alstroemeria, anthurium, orchid, calla lily. Palette shifts to white and silver. See [our Alicante bouquet longevity guide](https://brisalta.flowers/journal/mediterranean-flower-longevity-guide).

September: depth returns

Dahlias, autumn roses, amaranth come back. Palette shifts to terracotta, burgundy, ochre. Ideal for sunset weddings by the sea.

October: dahlias and physalis

Dahlia peak — a florist's delight. Physalis brings autumn ochre to any composition. Good month for birthdays and «different» gifts.

November: chrysanthemums and All Saints' Day

November 1, Día de Todos los Santos. The chrysanthemum is the flower of this date — it is not a derogatory «cemetery flower» in Spain, it is a sign of respect for memory.

December: amaryllis and poinsettia

Amaryllis season — architectural flower for Christmas compositions. Poinsettia (flor de pascua) potted decorates every home. Palette: red, white, green, gold.

How we use the calendar

When you order a bouquet at Brisalta we suggest seasonal varieties first — prettier, more sustainable and cheaper. If you want something out of season (peonies in August, say) we'll source it, but we'll be honest about price and longevity.
